Santa Cruz County Breastfeeding Coalition

The Santa Cruz County Breastfeeding Coalition (BFC) is a community coalition of local partners committed to optimizing the health of mothers, birthing persons, and babies by encouraging breastfeeding friendly attitudes, policies, and images in the community. Our Coalition members recognize the impact of birthing practices and community health professional involvement, and the importance of promoting breastfeeding education among women, partners, and their community.

Goals and Objectives

  • Promote chest feeding/breastfeeding-friendly policies and practices in Santa Cruz County, including those promoted by birthing person, mother friendly and baby friendly initiatives.
  • Conduct outreach and education to health care professionals, schools, businesses, and the community.
  • Promote positive media coverage of chest feeding/breastfeeding issues and events.
  • Advocate for and facilitate ongoing support for Latine birthing persons and families to increase chest feeding/breastfeeding rates and duration among the population.
  • Support and participate in community events that promote chest feeding/breastfeeding and awareness.
  • Facilitate resource sharing and collaboration among agencies and programs that provide health-related services to birthing persons, women and families.
  • Conduct data collection and evaluation to identify local trends in chest feeding/breastfeeding rates and related issues.
  • Conduct grant writing and other fundraising activities to provide financial support for Coalition activities.
