Methadone

THESE programs offer methadone (a longer-acting opiate taken in liquid or tablet form) as a substitute for heroin and other opiates. Programs include short-term (21-day to six-month) detoxification with gradually lower doses of methadone, or long-term methadone maintenance. Maintenance helps the addict achieve greater stability in key life areas.
