WHEN people engage in self-destructive behavior, they may not realize they need help, and may be unwittingly supported in their behavior by family and friends. A professional interventionist can help family members and/or friends understand their options for dealing with a loved one who has an addiction problem. They confront the addict about the impact of their addictive behavior, reduce support for that behavior, and pave the way for entry into treatment.
