MOST self-help programs are based on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. However, some people find that 12-step programs do not fit with their personal beliefs or are not helpful for some other reason. Alternative Self-Help Programs assist people to find paths to recovery through mutual self-help that is not based on the 12 steps.

Training (SMART) is a network of alternative/or complementary
self-help groups based on Albert Ellis' Rational Emotive
Therapy (REBT) methods helping substance abusers achieve
sobriety regardless of their religious convictions or lack of
them. Using a holistic "thinking-feeling-doing"
approach, participants explore and practice sound psychological
principles that can be applied to their own lives. Groups are
always small so that everyone present can feel welcome to join

M.O.A.B. MEN OVERCOMING ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR
Meetings: Monday, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. |
MOAB is a self-facilitated men's support group originally founded by a few local men who endeavored to find ways to recognize and deal with their anger and the abusive behaviour in their relationships. Over the years MOAB has become a safe and confidential environment to talk with other men about things that we may ordinarily harbor or conceal. Listening to others helps us to recognize our own hidden issues so they become easier to deal with. Meetings are FREE (no dues or fees, though we do accept donations for the purchase of necessary supplies). All men are welcome to attend; the only requirement is sobriety during meeting times. If you have questions, please send an email to: moab@moab.org. Contacts: |
