Medical Providers

Parents

As families move in and out of public and private health care systems, parents and providers can use the benefits of an immunization registry as a powerful tool to ensure that children receive timely immunizations. The County of Santa Cruz is in the process of implementing an immunization registry.

Our Mission

Our mission is to ensure secure, electronic exchange of immunization records to support the elimination of vaccine-preventable diseases. In order to have the registry work at full capacity, the goal is to have all health care providers and other users such as schools, foster care, and detention centers on board and actively using the registry. In so doing, any authorized registry user in the County of Santa Cruz can immediately obtain comprehensive immunization information on any child in the registry database.

Since Santa Cruz County is in the beginning stages of implementing the registry, it is important to get the word out. Please use the resources and links on this website to learn more about the immunization registry and how it can benefit you, whether you are a healthcare provider, school or parent.

What is BARR?

Santa Cruz County is a member of the Bay Area Regional Immunization Registry (BARR) a coalition of regional counties. The California Automated Immunization Registry (CAIR) is a confidential, computerized information system designed to catalog and provide immediate access to a patient’s immunization history. Its purpose is to create a single, population-based data source for all healthcare providers in the region.

Covering a multi-jurisdictional area, BARR was founded on a clear and simple premise: protection against vaccine-preventable disease is a fundamental component of public health and healthier communities. An immunization registry is the best possible strategy for assuring timely and appropriate coverage.
