Primary Functions of the Public Health Department

Birth and Death Certificates
Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program
The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP) is a state mandated program to identify and medically manage elevated child blood lead level cases, develop programs to educate the public and health care providers, and adopt regulations governing the cleanup of lead paint in housing.
Children's Medical Services
Provides health examinations, rehabilitation services, and follow-up medical treatment for children who are low-income or have Medi-Cal, and are eligible for the California Children Services (CCS), and Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) programs. 
Disease and Infection Control
Information about various communicable diseases and how to report them, medical provider information and immunization information. 
Emergency Medical Services
Oversight and administration of the Emergency Medical Response System including disaster preparedness working to establish emergency service priorities. 
Emergency Preparedness and Response
Prevent, prepare for, and protect residents from public health emergencies through planning, communication, training and incident response. Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) committee formed to prepare for public health emergencies.
Family Health Programs
Provides health-related services, education, support and information for women, men, and families living in the Santa Cruz county area. 
Health Education
Programs include: tobacco education, injury prevention, dental disease prevention, community water fluoridation, tobacco ordinance information, Syringe Services Program, and general health education.
HIV/AIDS Services
Provides education and treatment, HIV/AIDS counseling, prevention, nursing case management, health outreach and education for teens, free anonymous and confidential HIV testing at HSA clinics and in the community.
Homeless Persons Health Project
Primary health care and substance abuse treatment to homeless people.
Child/Adult Immunization resources, programs, services, and education.
Financial help for low-income adults not eligible for Medi-Cal or Medicare for current health conditions. This program provides general medical care, specialty care, emergency room services and inpatient hospitalization treatment.
Public Health Field Nursing
Field and home visits for case management of pregnant and parenting teens, their infants and their siblings, premature and other high risk infants, and STD, TB, and Communicable Disease contact investigation and control.
